Goodbyes have been said to 2021 and another new year begins! In the cottages many other goodbyes were also said to kids who returned home to parents or went to adoptive placements. While it was sad to say goodbye, we are excited for new beginnings for those families. For houseparents and staff, goodbyes are bittersweet, and clearly take their toll on our hearts. However, this is the work to which we are committed – to care for children for the season that the Lord entrusts them to us. Now as the new year begins, we will welcome new faces, new [...]

The Foster Care and Adoption program at Texas Girls & Boys Ranch is growing and flourishing!  At this time, we have more families than we have ever had before. More and more people are becoming aware of the variety of services that we offer and we are helping more kids than ever! Couples are being referred to us by their friends or from our current foster parents.  Folks looking to foster or adopt a precious child also like that we are a faith-based agency and we share values similar to theirs. We take children from birth to 17 years [...]

Football, homecoming, parades, and harvest festivals. Fall is a wonderful time of year at Texas Girls & Boys Ranch. Rarely are the weekends without activity or events for the kids. The fun-filled weekends of the Fall season are part of what helps our kids find the joy that they couldn’t find before the ranch. Too often, the children entrusted to us have worried for too long about grown-up things: where they are going to spend the night, what is available to eat, and\or if they are safe. But, sit with them in the stands at a football game, help [...]

Shelter Spotlight

This year at the Shelter, we have begun to see more repeat residents due to things like foster homes closing or facilities shutting down across the state. Our state is experiencing a bed shortage for children in foster care of all ages. While walking through our Shelter, I saw two old suitcases sitting at the bottom of the stairs. Seeing those particular suitcases caused a wave of grief to wash over me. I knew these girls were coming back to the shelter, I had accepted the placement request. But there those suitcases were. One black, probably from the ’90s. [...]

At Texas Girls & Boys Ranch we have 4 Cottages plus an Emergency Children’s Shelter where the children live with two houseparents and any children the houseparents may have of their own. Many times that can amount to up to 10 people in the house! As you might imagine, shopping for a house of 10 hungry mouths can be quite the task. To make the shopping process easier, TXGBR has a commissary from which house parents can order all groceries. The process is simplified by a single order form turned into our commissary staff, Lacy, on a weekly basis. [...]

Being a teenager is hard enough but being a teenager in foster care can be even more challenging. There are teens who graduate from school and from foster care and suddenly have to face going into the world all on their own. Most young adults need support from their family once they leave home. They call home to ask for advice about how to cook something, or how to complete adult tasks such as filing taxes or buying a car. They may even call to ask for help paying a bill. They also usually want a place to go [...]
